Easter Island Theory of the Day: Easter Island’s iconic and mysterious statues may very well have “walked” into place— at least according to archaeologists Terry Hunt and Carl Lipo, who have determined that as few as 18 people could have used ropes to navigate the hulking moai.

The best part? The research validates the islanders’ own mythology, which claims that the moai did indeed walk across the island.
